What stays on your computer

maplestory.watch reads the game window you share in your own browser. The video never leaves your computer. Your EXP and map history, potion counts and personal market index are kept in your browser's storage, and clearing your site data removes them.

What goes into the market index

When you open a player's shop in the Free Market, the page sends what it read from the shop to the maplestory.watch server, where it becomes part of a market index that anyone can see:

the seller's character name and the shop's title,
the Free Market room it was in,
each item's name, price, how many come in a bundle, and whether it sold out, and
when you opened the shop.

This happens whenever you share your game window and open a shop. The same goes for your own store, with your character's name: what's in it when you open it, if the page saw you set it up. Nothing else about your own character is sent.

Signing in and claiming characters

You can sign in with Discord to claim your characters, so that your store goes into the market index as soon as you open it. Signing in is optional, and the rest of the site works without it. When you sign in, Discord tells maplestory.watch your Discord user ID and username, and nothing else: not your email, your servers, or your messages. The server keeps:

your Discord user ID and username,
the names of the characters you claimed, and when,
whether you're in the maplestory.watch Discord server, which the site asks Discord, so that it only invites you if you aren't, and
a cookie that keeps your browser signed in, until you sign out or for up to 400 days.

To claim a character, you whisper a code from it to the site's own character in the game. That character's page reads the sender's name and the code from its chat, and the code is deleted once it's used, or about 10 minutes after it was made. Your stores then go into the market index under your character's name, as described earlier, linked to your claim. If you're in the maplestory.watch Discord server, claiming a character also gives you its Merchant role there. Your Discord ID and username are never shown on the site, sold, or shared. They're kept until you ask for them to be removed.

Your IP address

With each upload, the server records the IP address it came from. It's used only to stop uploads that abuse the index, such as made-up prices, and to remove what they sent. It's never shown on the site, sold, or shared. It's kept as long as the upload it came with, which is indefinitely, unless you ask for it to be removed.

The site shows ads to pay for itself. They're served by advertising partners, who, with the companies they work with, may use cookies and similar technologies, your IP address, and details of your browser and device to show ads, count how often they're seen and clicked, stop fraud, and, where you allow it, choose ads by your interests. maplestory.watch never gives them your game, your EXP or map history, your potions, or your personal market index.

If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the site asks before ads use cookies or personal data. Wherever you are, the Privacy choices link at the foot of each page lets you change what you allowed, or, where your state's law gives you the right, opt out of your data being sold or shared for targeted ads. You can also opt out of interest-based ads at optout.aboutads.info, youronlinechoices.eu, and in Google's My Ad Center.

Other services

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which also counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. That uses no cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites. The site loads scripts from jsDelivr, fonts from Google Fonts, and monster and map data from maplestory.io. Each of them receives your IP address when your browser asks them for something, under its own privacy policy. Signing in goes through Discord, under Discord's privacy policy.

Children

The site isn't meant for children under 13, and doesn't knowingly collect anything from them.

To have the uploads from your IP address removed, or your account and claims, or for any question about this policy, join the maplestory.watch Discord and ask there.
